Director, Research & Discovery Lab Operations

Spring House, PA
The Director, Laboratory Operations will be responsible for oversight and execution of essential laboratory services, facilities management, and capital equipment processes for Discovery scientific functions at the Spring House site, supporting the Therapeutics Discovery & Preclinical Sciences and Translational Safety organizations. This is a critical role that will be responsible for ensuring a safe and highly functioning laboratory environment.
This individual will apply a deep understanding of Discovery’s scientific strategies and objectives to implement and harmonize appropriate processes for capital equipment onboarding and maintenance, asset inventory management, facilities projects, space planning, and budget management. To this end, this role will collaborate with several key internal functions (Business Operations, Finance, Facilities, EHS) as well as external partners.
Success in this role will be highly dependent on the individual’s ability to be an effective change agent, influence and deliver without direct authority, and proficiently navigate complex situations toward straightforward solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee a team of specialists that manages laboratory operations.
- Enable these specialists to partner effectively with internal and external partners to ensure appropriate functioning of Discovery laboratory operations and equipment.
- Escalate issues and share best practices.
- Design and implement globally aligned and harmonized processes that ensure optimal support of scientific functions
- Act as the East Coast single point of contact (SPOC) to our R&D business partners for all Laboratory Workplace related aspects
- Discuss and enable development of team
- Lead and participate in complex multi-disciplinary discovery instrumentation and infrastructure projects
- Build and maintain a thorough understanding of scientific and business needs of Discovery (TD and PSTS)

Education:
- A minimum of a BS degree in biological or chemical science
Required:
- 5 years of experience in both laboratory sciences and operations in pharma R&D
- 5 years of people management experience
- Knowledge/understanding of laboratory needs, requirements and experience working in pharma
- Strong organizational skills
- Proven leader in complex initiatives
- Demonstrated success at developing highly collaborative and effective relationships in complex, highly matrixed organization
- Ability to present and communicate with stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to develop and lead the execution of strategy and business transformation and initiatives
- Change management experience
- Experience in assessing technology, R&D process requirements to successfully drive operational productivity, strategy optimization, process improvements and efficiencies
- Experience with Program, Project and Financial Management
- Ability to translate data into information and strategies into executable action plans
