Job responsibilities:
  • the planning and organization of all equipment and facility maintenance and repair activities.
  • budget preparation and administration, employee selection and training, systems analysis and implementation, inventory purchasing and control, labor and vendor contract negotiation and administration, and interface with other departments.
  • Ensures the department maintains a fleet operating level consistent with the requirements and demands of associated departments. The fleet consists of a wide array of shoreside, rail, and automated stacking cranes as well as a large fleet of straddle carriers, top handlers, side handlers, yard hostlers, and various other stevedore related equipment. Ensures the same as it relates to client equipment requirements and/or requests. Reviews and assesses scopes of work to ensure quality and productivity standards are routinely met.
  • Oversees related work practices and productivity levels associated with the workforce. This is to include compliance with existing labor contracts, working rules, as well as union and employer relationships.
  • Controls departmental labor costs using engaged oversight, communication, direction, and auditing, ensuring consistent efficiencies and cost effectiveness.

  • Trains, schedules, directs, motivates, and evaluates staff.
  • Performs administrative activities associated with the effective management of the department’s overall operations and responsibilities.
  • Ensures the department maintains accessible and effective lines of communication. 
  • Keeps informed of new and improved related equipment and technology. Provides input on development of improved service strategies or new operational processes.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree - engineering preferred
  • Professional Certification in Engineering preferred

EXPERIENCE
  • Preferred minimum 5 years supervision
  • Preferred minimum 2 years technical/engineering experience
  • Labor relations experience
  • Experience with safety and environmental compliance programs
  • Purchasing, inventory control, and cost accounting experience
  • Experience within 24/7 operational environments preferred.

  • Analytical ability
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Good working knowledge of all equipment including electrical, PLC, hydraulic and pneumatic components/systems.
  • Flexibility in handling dynamic priority situations

  • Ability to motivate and generate respect and loyalty of labor force.
