Mattson Resources is working with a growing company that is looking for an Equipment Manager.

The Equipment Manager provides leadership and direction for the safe, reliable and cost-effective performance of container terminal equipment.

Job responsibilities:
  • providing customer service and overseeing all preventative maintenance and repairs performed by the Journeyman Mechanics.
  •  primary Diesel Equipment Manager overseeing repairs, ordering of parts and services for said department.
  • Assist with the daily purchasing of inventory and non-inventoried parts, supplies and services and serves as back-up in the absence of other M&R department managers.
  • Assists with vendor contract negotiations and performance evaluations.
  • knowledge of labor contract, administration and a demonstrated leadership capability are essential to this labor-intensive department. Maintain a thorough knowledge of applicable labor agreements and local working rules thus enabling proper supervision and understanding of the labor environment which in turn provides the ability/necessity to engage in related issues as necessary.
  • Arranges for terminal facilities maintenance and diesel equipment certification and repairs with outside vendors based on operational priorities established in cooperation with other departments.
  • Assist in ensuring the department provides and maintains a safe work environment, both within the department’s immediate workforce, but also throughout the overall facility, its equipment and associated surroundings.
  • knowledgeable of equipment technology, terminology, various equipment types and repair techniques, all of which must conform to applicable standards. This management of parts, materials, and supplies inventory, purchasing, cost accounting and preparation of reports and applicable documentation.
  • build up a preventive and predictive maintenance schedule with detailed work instructions for all equipment to reduce damages and downtime on all machinery
  • proactively undertakes maintenance planning for corrective work, maintains up-to-date information and knowledge on equipment, improves and modifies equipment design, in order to improve safety, reliability, efficiency or life cycle cost.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
  • A university degree in electrical/electronic, mechanical or mechatronic engineering or related field. With some post qualification experience or significant practical experience advancing career from a relevant craft through to supervisor or management position (10+ years technical experience, 2+ years management experience).
  • Additional studies in asset management, business or related is considered an advantage.
  • Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals applicable to container handling equipment
  • Practical knowledge of general safety, health and environmental issues
  • Experience working with a union workforce an ability to work in the bargaining agreement
  • Advanced Proficiency and Computer skills for MS Office suite
  • Ability to work outdoors at height, in confined/restricted spaces and out of normal hours
  • Ability to occasionally travel domestically and/or internationally
  • Experience within a demanding 24/7 work environment
  • Cost consciousness when making decisions
  • Experience and training specifically related to container handling equipment
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Advanced Proficiency and Computer skills for SQL, Visual Basic and other database systems or programming language
  • Knowledge and experience with best practice asset management methodologies including Preventative and Predictive Maintenance, 5S, LEAN, Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Vibration Analysis, Thermography, Tribology etc.
  • Good mechanical aptitude and understanding of mechanical equipment and systems
  • Understanding of basic electrical engineering principles including control circuits and programmable controllers
  • Ability to understand and work from mechanical drawings and electrical drawing/schematics.
  • Experience with robotics and/or automated vehicles
  • Experience with encoders and potentiometers
  • Experience with radar and laser sensor systems
  • Basic working knowledge of hydraulic systems
  • Basic working knowledge of diesel engines and powertrain systems
  • Basic working knowledge of PLC and variable frequency drive equipment
  • Exposure to wireless network equipment
  • Exposure to communication protocols like CAN-BUS, Ethernet, RS232, PROFIBUS and their use, maintenance, and troubleshooting
